Thriving at King’s: Helping tackle organisational challenges head-on to create a healthy and sustainable work culture
We delivered a staff development programme for King’s College London that supports organisational development and King’s wider ambition to create a thriving staff community.
Snapshot
King’s Organisational Development (OD) Team asked Gabrielle to help address challenges around productivity, burnout and maintaining work/ life boundaries. In response, Gabs worked with them to create a staff development programme that would upskill employees with practical tools and techniques to manage their well-being, maintain focus and align work with personal values. Since 2022, Thriving has supported X King’s staff from across the organisation to implement changes to their daily work to support personal capability and create healthy working practices. As an integral part of OD’s L&D offering, which helps improve staff performance, enhance retention and contribute to a balanced and fulfilling professional life, thriving has helped increase organisational sentiment into learning and development from 27% (2017) to 64% (2025).

The challenge
(and aligning with the wider people development strategy)
Challenges around productivity, burnout, lack of self-confidence, and difficulty maintaining work-life boundaries were identified from existing data and information captured via staff engagement activities. A solution to this needed to align with OD’s broader efforts around supporting personal capability, values and development for colleagues across the organisation, as part of the wider organisational strategy to put career and talent development at the heart of the ambition to create a thriving staff community. For this, the team needed an external partner who could really understand the organisational context to create something that would respond directly to the underlying issues, whilst delivering something that would resonate and land well with a diverse staff group. And, they knew that person was Gabs!
